“Conservation through Education” is the mission of leading conservationist Tinus Cronjé at Campfire Safaris, in the Balule Private Nature Reserve, Kruger National Park,
South Africa.The training at Campfire Safaris is mostly directed to young people interested in the Management of a Nature Reserve, Game Rangers and Ecologists.

During the last ten years many International College and University students have had been successfully doing their Internship and Practical Traineeship at Campfire Safaris under the expert guidance of Tinus Cronjé and his team.

The Balule Private Game Reserve, where Campfire Safaris is located, comprises over 65.000 hectares of, privately owned, unfenced African bush.

There are also no fences between Balule Private Game Reserve and the adjacent
Kruger National Park.

Wild animals, including the “big five”, are moving freely within the boundaries of the Greater Kruger Park 2.000.000 hectares open ecosystem, probably the most important in Africa.

The following topics are included in all courses:
 
  • Understanding and protecting the ecological systems;
  • The habitat: definition, identification, threats and protection;
  • The food chain;
  • Animal behavior;
  • Conservation and preservation;
  • Soil erosion: causes, cures and prevention;
  • Alien plants identification and control;
  • Planning, designing, building, maintenance, management, marketing and budgeting of an ecotourism business;
  • Breeding and animal rehabilitation projects;
  • Animal diseases;
  • Functions and responsibilities of the Game Ranger;
  • Fencing, patrolling and maintaining a Nature Reserve;
  • Anti poaching techniques;
  • Game tracking;
  • Problem animals;
  • Hunting and culling;
  • Rifle handling and shooting;
  • First aid;
  • Snakes and snakes bites;
  • Bush crafts and survival: water, fire, weapons, snares and orientation;
 
The training will include:
 
  • Daily lectures;
  • Assistance on assignments;
  • Supervision and progress monitoring;
  • Liaising with Teaching Institutes;
  • Work assessment;
  • Research work;
